Parental guidance

Being a parent is often demanding, and it can lead to bad thoughts and feelings when you experience challenges. It is not unusual to be unsure of how to understand the child's needs, or handle the child's expression and behaviour.

Many parents want concrete advice and guidance, and others may feel the need for help to manage their own feelings and thoughts related to the child or the parenting role.

Whatever the reason, it can sometimes be very useful to talk to an outside professional, to get new perspectives, knowledge, tools, guidance, or support to find good solutions yourself.

What is parental guidance?

In parental guidance, the psychologist will listen to your challenges and have the overall goal of guiding you to an experience of mastering the parenting role. Among other things, you will learn to meet the child and his feelings and behavior in a good way, while at the same time setting safe boundaries and safeguarding the bond between you.

The psychologist starts from research-based knowledge, and you put together a plan to work with what feels significant and useful.

Parental guidance is offered over video or at our clinic in Vika in Oslo, to one or both parents, without children present.

Who is parental guidance suitable for?

Parental guidance is suitable for anyone who wants tools to give their child a safe and good upbringing, increase their own well-being in the parental role and increase the opportunities for a better relationship with the child.
